Subject: Web Access to SAS-L at UGA

I *think* everything is reasonably clear. Note to the FAQ folks: this
should be the final version. --Joe
(according to "catalist" SAS-L at Marist is also available via the web)
SAS-L at UGA may be accessed via your browser.
Go to the UGA Listserver site (http://www.listserv.uga.edu/)
It should be reasonably understandable from there, however I wanted to
be sure a few things were (perhaps) a bit clearer:
- SAS-L is a publicly-accessable mailing list
- It is bi-directionally gated to the newsgroup comp.soft-sys.sas (so
what is posted in one should eventually end up in the other).
- To receive SAS-L via email you must subscribe to it by sending a
message to the listserver (listserv) at one of four institutions:
University of Vienna akh-wien.ac.at
Marist University vm.marist.edu
University of Georgia listserv.uga.edu
Virginia Polytechnic University listserv.vt.edu
(SAS-L is a "peered" discussion List)
- Obviously, if you read SAS-L via the newsgroup or any of the
archived newsgroup/list sites available via the Web, this is not
necessary.
- If you wish to _post_ via the UGA Listserv web interface, you will
have to register. You are NOT registering for SAS-L and you must
do this even if you ARE registered for SAS-L. This is mostly to
register your email address - which will appear in any posting you
make.
- If you are subscribed to SAS-L at UGA (but not one of the other
peers), you may also manage your subscription if you are registered.
- When(If) you register, the listserver will send you a test message
asking you to "confirm" your registration. You may respond either
by email(usually a "reply") or by using your browser. If you use
the email method, be sure to send the message from the same address
to which the original was sent(ie, the one you registered).
Listserver software pays close attention to electronic addresses,
and will scan the mail headers of the message. You will probably
have problems if the address you register is "me@corp.com", but
the listserver finds your address is really something like
"me@mailgate.corp.com".
- For the time being, please send any questions about this to
"sas-l-request@listserv.uga.edu"
