I checked S. Peachtree creek nature preserve again thursday evening from
6:00 until 7:30pm - did not see the american bitterns reported earlier.
I did have an enjoyable visit - I was entirely alone for 90 minutes of
birding while Atlanta went home from work within earshot. A few nice
birds:
Redwings (lots of nesting behavior)
Brown thrasher
Rough-winged swallow
Barn swallow (picking insects from the water surface)
Cedar waxwing
Goldfinch
Cardinal
Blue jay
Belted Kingfisher
Greater yellowlegs
Eastern Kingbird
Gray Catbird
Towhee
Orchard oriole
Chestnut-sided Warbler
Prairie Warbler
Solitary Sandpiper
Scarlet Tanager
This little preserve is a gem.
