Subject: V8 SQL pass-through problems
Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii

I am posting this question for a member of our local user's group. Please copy her in on the responses or send them directly to her. Her e-mail address is Sally.Moore@yellowcorp.com .

I have another question and I am not sure where to go. We are testing the

Version 8 upgrade and are not having a lot of success. It is not "upwardly

compatible" like we were told.

My questions have to do with this - We currently use PROC SQL the pass

through to DB2 on the mainframe. So far SASv8 is causing problems with 8

character variable name length. We have always truncated the field to 8

characters in SAS but used the full name in the DB2 connection. With V8,

SAS will not accept the shortened 8 characters, the field name must match

the DB2 name. I know we can use options validvarname=v6, but another

problem is field length. A program currently running in production "wraps"

when we use v8 - it changes the field spacing.

I have been in contact with the SAS technical support line and they have

sent me a few answers, but I need to talk to someone who is currently using

V8 and on a DB2 mainframe database. Perhaps we do not have all of our

switches installed correctly. Do you have any suggestions?

Thanks for your help.
