I used SAS for 9 years in financial modeling.  We were not using it for
statistics, at all.  When you have, for example, a large number of product
codes with various kinds of characteristics that you are defining or
projecting, eg. unit sales projections, price per unit, cost per unit,
etc., SAS is excellent because the same data step code can be used whether
you are adding products or eliminating products.  Output of SAS data steps
(data sets) can be read by other SAS data steps easily and used to develop
further data sets and end-product reports.
