At our site we have partitions known as IPO1, IPO2, IPO3.

I find files using SYS1.**.*<partition name>* using ISPF option 3.4. Several exist.

If you do this and ask sys progs which ones will always exist and always reflect the partition name then the FILEEXIST function used against that filename should do the job.
