Maybe. I'd be more inclined to put it down to deficient Classical education to the west of the Atlantic - otherwise even those Yankees would have known that billion should be 10**12 :-)

Anyway, since we've 'given in' to you over billions and trillions, isn't it now your turn as regards paper sizes, if not also some of your weights and measures?!!
