Thanks for all the help.

I just found out that sas -log /dev/null sim_alt_1.sas

doesn't create the log file at all.

BUT I do agree with Nancy. Suppress 'log' only when you are sure of your coding.(A dry run with the log followed by thousands of iterations without the log)
