Hi Lauren, Sally

SPSS 10.1.3 fixes a very annoying value label bug that appeared with SPSS 10.1. Basically, changes in value labels did not save.

There seems to be three SAS formats added to the file types that SPSS can open:

SAS v6 for Windows (*.sd2) SAS v6 for Unix (*.ssd01) SAS portable (*.tpt)

I do not know any other details about the improved database connectivity, statistical enhancements or bug fixes in SPSS 10.1.3.

SPSS 10.1 VALUE LABEL BUG

Q. I am running SPSS 10.1 for Windows and have modified existing value labels in Variable View. The change is reflected in the Data and Variable View tabs, but when I generate any procedure that displays value labels in the output, the old value labels are displayed. Subsequently, if I save the file and re-open it later, the old value labels are [shown again] in the Data/Variable View tabs [i.e. the value label changes were not saved]. What seems to be the problem?

A. The problem has been fixed in SPSS 10.1.3 for Windows. [It is not present in SPSS 10.x versions prior to SPSS 10.1]

WORKAROUND

Remove the existing label in the Value Labels dialog box and click <OK>. Next, click the ellipse to return to the dialog box and add the desired value label.

ADDITIONAL NOTES

You must erase a target variable's value labels to successfully paste and retain a copy of the value labels from another variable. Copy a "None" value label and paste it first into the target value label cell. Then copy and paste your actual value labels into the cell. The change will be saved.

Copying and pasting value labels over current value labels is ineffective. Deleting and adding a value label without closing the dialog box as mentioned in the workaround above is also ineffective.
