Also, does the "CACHE" option help? That is, when the cache data option is used, doesn't that force a local copy in 10.x? Otherwise, isn't SPSS constantly pulling data in chunks? Perhaps I misunderstood the process, but I was led to believe that if you have drive space, always cache the data with SPSS...
