I've had that sort of frightful event sometime in the past. I seem to recall it was often associated with a corrupt working file (unless the disk was really full, or its capacity is exhausted in the very act of saving your working file). (The latter would happen if you have added more variables or cases to the file during the session before saving over the old --and smaller-- file).

Try using XSAVE instead of SAVE, just in case it is something associated with the command. And check the syntax carefully for possible errors.
