Thank You!
I've been harping on co-workers for years to use different names when saving
a file after making changes. My own preference has been to make the
original "a" and subsequent versions "b", "c", etc. It's rare I get past 26
versions. But it is really a pain when you go into a data set expecting a
variable to be coded one way and find that its been recoded into itself with
different values. It's especially annoying when the recode was a single
use/special purpose transformation that should have been left in syntax (as
an audit trail) and the original data returned to storage the way it was
found. Needless to say, I've made many personal "back-ups" to "fix" such
problems.
Maybe we should start a thread on best practices. I'm sure there is
something I could be doing better.
