A couple of extra ones to follow up my friends usually comprehensive
answer
SWALK is, I believe Liverpudlian in origin.. You know, the Beatles, the
Liver birds, Scouse, the Mersey beat. My mother referred to it from her
childhood, which was just a little before the Internet, television, and
when the wireless was an entirley different proposition to today. She
used to tell me that a fellow who was interested in a girl would write
that across the flap of an envelope he sent her. When she replied it
was with...
SWABOS written on the flap. Sealed With A Bit Of Spit.
SWALK always meant: sealed with a loving kiss. The other meaning is
probably something like:
RTFM Read The Factual Material which is a PC version of the original
meaning.
I'm surprised not to have seen the emergence of the Q code, other morse
abbreviations or even the 10 code in email. They seem to have become
well entrenched in Citizens band radio from their original source in
professional communications. Otherwise we'd see more people signing
their emails with...
73 & 88
QRT.
