Hi

The sample mean is an unbiased estimator of the lambda parameter of the poisson distribution.

You can use the Kolmogorov-Smirnov test to check that it is not unreasonable to use the Poisson distribution. The syntax is

NPAR TESTS /K-S(POISSON)= countvar /MISSING ANALYSIS.

I have a set of count data, for which I would like to find the closest fitting Poisson distribution.

How can I use SPSS to estimate the mean ?
