I filled in today on the weekly shorebird count on Blackbeard. The weather was hot, the sea was calm, there was almost no breeze. Sanderlings rule!

Sanderling ~ 450 Ruddy Turnstone - 28 Black-bellied Plover - 21 (most in breeding plumage) Short-billed Dowitcher - 27 (some red on the breast of many) Willet - 10 Semipalmated Plover - 6

Other birds of note Black Skimmer - 1 immature Reddish Egret - 2 immature on south beach. Black Tern - several
