1. Welcome new International Students! The ISL staff and World Leaders are pleased to have met many of you during international student orientation from Aug 5-12. We hope the orientation program was beneficial to you; your comments are very helpful to us, so please continue to let us know what you liked or disliked regarding orientation as well as how you are adjusting to campus life and your living accommodations. If you still have questions or need help, feel free to contact the ISL office. Our phone number is 542-5867 and the office email address is if you would like to send us an email.

2. ISL has 26 International student organizations that could be a valuable resource for you. These groups are eager to meet you, so if you are interested in membership or finding out more about the organizations contact the ISL office at 542-867.

3. ISL and Graduate & Family Housing invite all new international student and graduate & family housing residents to an evening of fun and excitement for all ages! Come join us in the Graduate and Family Community Room on Friday, August 16, from 6 pm until 9 pm. Free snacks and opportunities to make new friends are available. We hope to see you there!

4. Campus Coffee Hour will NOT be held on Friday, August 16, 2002. The FIRST Coffee Hour of the semester will be on Friday, August 23, 2002, from 11:30 a.m. - 1:30 p.m. Meet interesting people from around the World! Enjoy Ethnic foods! Spend time with ISL! Sip Coffee or drink lemonade! There is NO charge for this event and it is sponsored by the International Student Life Office.

All students and scholars in F or J status should be aware that the rule governing Automatic Visa Revalidation has been canceled. In the past F and J visa holders have been allowed to go to Canada, Mexico and islands adjacent to the U.S. with an expired visa and allowed to re-enter the U.S. if their visit was for less than 30 days. This is no longer possible. DO NOT LEAVE THE U.S. WITH AN EXPIRED VISA WITHOUT CONSULTING YOUR ADVISOR IN THE OFFICE OF INTERNATIONAL EDUCATION. For questions please contact OIE at

1. August 15, 2002. Big Dawg Welcome: Midnight Madness Shopping Spree. Sponsored by Department of Student Activities. Athens Transit will provide transportation to area shopping outlets, including Target, Sam's Club, SunCom, Bed, Bath and Beyond, Publix, WalMart Supercenter (East side), and Borders. Stores will be offering door prizes and discounts to students. Buses start at 10:00 PM and will run until 2:00 AM. Contact: 542-3816 or

2. August 15, 2002. Graduate Student Association Welcome Party. Sponsored by Graduate Student Association. Come welcome the new Graduate students. All grad and professional students welcome. Free food, music and door prizes. Herty Field, North Campus. Contact: .

3. August 16, 2002. Kickoff for the 2002-2003 Dawgs After Dark season. Sponsored by the Department of Student Activities. Face painting, wax hands, caricaturists and fortune tellers, various carnival games and inflatable attractions. Also, a concert on Legion Field, featuring the pop/alternative act American Hi-Fi. Dawgs After Dark is an alcohol-free program held 6 times during Fall Semester, usually before homefootball games, and is free for all UGA fees-paid students. Time TBD. Tate Student Center. 3. August 23, 2002. Campus Employment Fair. Sponsored by the UGA Career Center. Job fair for UGA students interested in part-time employment on campus.
