Having the syntax editor show up missing is not always a result of carelessness on the part of the installer. It's a known problem that has happened to lots of people, and has been discussed on SAS-L in the past. The operating system is necessarily Windows, because that's the only platform where the enhanced editor is available.

The easiest way to fix the problem is to install the syntax editor separately. It's in a subdirectory on one of the installation disks. I think it's called eeditor, and there's a setup.exe to install it.

Are you sure, that you FINISHED it? Without any errors? What is your operating system? What version of SAS? You know, that it is not a 10 minute job to do it since V8? You have to do a lot of rebooting during the installation and it is now deep in your registry! Also I think some services are installed now, a new version of internet explorer and and and. My suggestion: take an hour of time, do the installation again and have a look on ALL windows and messages you see during that process. Note them and provide it here, if it doesn't work.
