Subject: Re: Banning HTML-Spam ?

If we can control the spam by rules on the listserv software, great -- but I think that will prove difficult to do without filtering software, since spam can come as plain text, too. A month or two ago I suggested that we needed some volunteer moderators; at that point one person agreed with me and volunteered. My guess is that many of us could approve or reject submissions in ten seconds or so; it's pretty easy to tell the difference between a question about macro quoting and one about life insurance rate quotes <g>. A lot of us are probably already spending more time downloading and deleting spam that gets through than we'd spend if we volunteered a few minutes a day to moderate the list and keep the garbage out.

So, anyone else willing to volunteer as a moderator, solely to screen out the spam? If we have enough interest, we can talk to the list manager to see how we might work out logistics.
