Subject: Replace SAS with another language
Content-Type: text/plain; format=flowed

I know someone whose company is considering replacing two to three hundred thousand lines of SAS code in Base, Stat, a little IML, and lots of macro to some other language. Part of this project would include developing tools to "compile" the SAS code into some other language. This is motivated by the desire to avoid the SAS licensing fees. How big a project do you think this is? Is it doable? The company may be willing to spen a couple million dollars on the project. What do you think?
