Hi
The column width in the data editor is not wide enough to allow display of
the dates.
Solution 1:
Widen the column by hand.
Solution 2:
use the syntax command
VARIABLE WIDTH varname (11).
where varname is the name of your variable. Change 11 to a larger number if
necessary.

Subject: dates as asterisks
Dear List,
When opening a .sav file in v11.5 from an earlier version of SPSS, the dates
in the data view appear as asterisks. Why does this occur and is their a
fix?
TIA
Steve
