Subject: SAS to MS-Access Using DDE
Content-Type: text/plain; charset="iso-8859-1"
I had a great time at SUGI. The SAS-L BOF was one of the highlights! To be seated in the same room with so many giants of the industry... I'm getting a tear in my eye.
The primary thing I wanted to leave SUGI with was code to create MS-Access tables from a SAS data set using DDE. Thanks to Koen and others, I can go from SAS to Excel using DDE. But, some of the SAS data sets I have exceed Excel's puny row limit. So, in those cases I want to create an MS-Access table. I do not have SAS/Access for ODBC, so I can't go that route. And, I don't have SAS/Access fro PC Formats, so I can't use Proc Export. Because we are dropping SAS modules (the only way to S.O.S.), there is no way I am going to get these modules licensed. So, I wanted to go with DDE.
At SUGI I spoke with an SI technician who told me there is no way to create an MS-Access table from SAS using DDE because Microsoft does not allow DDE writes to an MS-Access table. If this is true, I'm sure Bill found a good reason to have this feature. Anyway, I'm looking for a work-around. The challenge, as noted above, I cannot use ODBC or Proc Export to MS-Access. Any ideas?
Thanks.
BTW: Those of you who received SAS-L awards, definitely deserved them.
