Maybe. I'm not sure that "hub-and-spoke" is the right term, but SAS
version 8 stores metadata in several different places, and they are
managed by several different programs.
Version 9 replaces that with a single metadata server which is part of
the base product. The metadata server will be one of the servers
managed by the new SAS Management Console.
For anyone who's wondering, I will send out my SUGI 28 Trip Report on
Wednesday.

at that link in eWeek, I find this quote
"SAS 9.1 will also include support for a central metadata repository,
replacing
the hub-and-spoke system SAS now uses."
Please can anyone describe the wheel that's being re-invented there ?
