Shadish, W.R., Cook, T.D., & Campbell, D.T. (2002). Experimental and
Quasi-Experimental Designs for Generalized Causal Inference. Boston:
Houghton-Mifflin.
I found earlier editions very useful in teaching doctoral and post
doctoral students in nursing, psych, education, public policy, and
evaluation.
Hope this helps.

Although their practice sites are clinical, their outcomes tend to be behaviors and attitudes (self ratings of symptoms, coping strategies, depressions etc) as opposed to binary outcomes often seen in clinical trials designs. They will be using both experimental and correlations designs.
