Earl Horn and I birded a few areas in Warren, Glascock, Jefferson and Burke
Cos. today. Still lots of stuff singing...Yellow-breasted Chats, Blue
Grosbeaks, Indigo Buntings, Summer Tanagers, Field Sparrows, etc., but also
a sizeable number of young birds begging for that one last catered
meal. Purple Martins and Barn Swallows continue to congregate (we had a
couple of flocks of Barn Swallows consisting of over 50 birds each). We
managed to dodge a lot of the rain and thunderstorms in the area most of
the day and ended up with about 88 species. Highlights included:
Snowy Egret - 3, in a mud pit along GA 17 south of Old Town, Jefferson Co.
Little Blue Heron - 3 immatures, near Boiling Springs along Magruder Rd.,
western Burke Co.; 1 immature, in a mud pit along GA 17 south of Old Town,
Jefferson Co.; 1 immature, along GA 80 south of Warrenton, Warren Co.
Cattle Egret - 83 (including flocks of 45 and 25), scattered throughout
Jefferson Co.
Green Heron - only 1 the entire day, northwestern Warren Co.
Wood Stork - 2, southeastern Glascock Co.; 2, northwestern Jefferson Co.

the Ogeechee R. east of Powelton

Ogeechee R. east of Powelton
Chuck-will's-widow - 7 singing at dawn, along CR 142, northwestern Warren Co.
Red-eyed Vireo - good numbers in northwestern Warren Co. (11), but few and
far between elsewhere
Prairie Warbler - only 1, along CR 27, northwestern Warren Co.

Worm-eating Warbler - 1, Hancock Co. side of the Ogeechee R. east of
Powelton; 2, Buzzard Branch@Smith McCorckle Rd., eastern Glascock Co.

(11 Species of Warbler total - Northern Parula, Pine, Prairie,
