Good Morning Folks,

One of the strengths of SAS and the SAS-L list is that they encourage people to think outside the box. Regarding SQL I had not come across the ideas that underpin databases and SQL before joining SAS-L. I have found the ideas on organising and manipulating data using the principals underpinning SQL extremely useful.

In any course in any discipline the central tenet is learn more, explore new ideas, be creative. Being aware of different ideas and concepts helps you stay competitive. You do not have to use any particular idea or concept.

If the reason for banning SQL is because it has a strange syntax, has a few idiosyncrasies and can cause confusion and frustration then on similar principals we should ban all computer languages and throw computers out of the window!

Regards

Dave.
