The road up the mountain is closed today, I assume until after the 9/11
memorial ceremony tonight.
Birded the area around and behind the parking lot with Tim Rose this morning,
and thought we were in for a new record for the mountain -- no birds at all!
Finally got a few of the usual suspects:
Mourning Dove
Carolina Wren
Brown Thrasher
Carolina Chickadee
Tufted Titmouse
Brown-headed Nuthatch
White-breasted Nuthatch
Blue Jay
a pair of Red-eyed Vireo
Summer Tanager -- male, looking quite ill, and female
Northern Cardinal
Plus good views of
Common Nighthawk -- 4 overhead at the parking lot, just after daylight
possibly a pair of Veery?
a pair of American Redstarts
and a pair of Hooded Warblers
Surprisingly, only three other birders all morning.
Parking is going to be restricted to Old 41 and Burnt Hickory tonight, I
believe.
Go out just to see the flags -- they are worth it. A photo is available for
downloading on the ajc.com website.
