Subject: Help for methodology of sample size calculation
Content-Type: text/plain; charset="iso-8859-1"

Dear lister,

I would like to inquire the methods of calculating survey sample size. I would like to draw a random sample from the entire province to study the differences by age (3 groups), gender (2 groups), income (3 groups), and urban (2 groups), how many samples I should draw from the entire province (the total population of the province is 600,000) (Telephone survey will be used). And which kind of methodology or formula I should use for calculation. In addition, I will also investigate the differences of the same 4 categorical variables by two communities in this province, and how many random samples should be drew from these 2 communities respectively. The population is 25,000 for one community and 18,000 for the other.

Any input would be highly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Nan
