David,
I tried all of your tasks. I was not able to paste all of the contents
of the output via simple 'select all' and 'paste' as you noted.
However, even after following and double-checking the sequence you
suggested, I NEVER got jumbled axis labels. When I was beta testing
version 12, my machine would lock up at the mere hint of the new
graphics. However, with the release, I have not had any troubles with
graphics. I noted to someone else on this list yesterday that I suspect
there might be some hardware and/or OS issues unique to individual
machines that may be the culprit. My first suggestion would be to
completely uninstall prior versions of SPSS and reinstall version 12 on
a machine that is free from SPSS 11, 11.5, etc.

There seem to be some strange results using some of the many ways to
copy a plot from SPSS 12.0 and to paste it into Word. It's easiest to
explain this by running some examples, some of which work as expected,
while others do not.
With the supplied example data 'Employment data', use Graphs > Scatter
to plot Current Salary by Previous Experience, setting markers for
Gender.
Use Graphs again to produce a scatter plot of Salary by Starting
Salary.
There are now two plots in the output window.
Select the first plot and use 'Copy'. Swap into Word and use Paste.
The
plot appears in the word document with the 'Current Salary' label (for
the Y axis) mangled
Use 'paste special' and the plot appears correctly in the Word
document.
Go back to SPSS, and Select All in the output window. Use 'Copy'.
Swap to Word; the paste options are grayed out.
Go back to SPSS, and Select All in the output window. Use 'Copy
Objects'
Swap to Word and use 'Paste'. Only the title 'Graph' is pasted in.
Use 'Paste Special, formatted text(rtf))'. The two titles 'graph' are
pasted in, and apparently nothing else, but clicking on the empty
space
shows that there are some frames present, but they are empty.
Go back to SPSS. Double click the first of the plots. This opens the
Chart Editor.
Within the Chart Editor, use the 'Copy Chart' option. Swap to word and
use 'Paste'. The plot appears, with the y-axis label mangled.
Use 'Paste Special' (Picture) The y-axis label is mangled.
Use 'Paste Special' (Bitmap). The plot is OK.
