I saw the yellow-billed loon about 11:30 AM at Lake Horton today. During the
brief time I was there, the common loon was not with the yellow-billed, which
was at the far side of the lake from the Antioch Road viewing area. There
also were two horned grebes present.
At Huie, there were a lot more tree swallows than I noticed last weekend.
Spring is on the way! Pipits, meadowlarks and snipe were also highlights, and
the common mergansers and shovelers were brilliant in their coloration. Gadwall
and still green winged teal were present; however, unlike last weekend, I did
not see any redheads nor white fronted geese. The eared grebe still is
hanging out in the pond immediately at the entrance.
All in all, a fine way to spend a beautiful Sunday morning.
