Subject: fixed dat format weirdness
Content-Type: text/plain; format=flowed
Hey all,
I am trying to save some data which has 52 records per subject as fixed
format so I can write an sps file to restructure it (The GUI I find totally
baffling in this regard, plus I need to rename the 52 versions of each of
the 9 variables anyway, so...).
ANyway, I saved the data, 3 lines of which looked like this in the sav file:
5 7 10 8 80.0 784.5 342.4 2 20.0 465.5 64
6 7 11 11 100.0 2059.6 1178 0 .0 .0 .0
7 7 11 11 100.0 1195.8 763.7 0 .0 .0 .0
The so called fixed dat file ends up like this:
5 710 8 80.0 784.5342.4220.0465.5 64
6 71111100.02059.6 11780 .0 .0 .0
7 71111100.01195.8763.70 .0 .0 .0
As you can see, the variables are not maintained in tandem; shorter
variables move *forward* rather than *backward*, putting everything out of
whack.
I am trying this with 12.0.1 for the 1st time. It worked fine with 11.5
(Although it would always save to identical columns across data files, which
is annoying. Is there a way to specify the columns one wants to write
variables to?). Could that be the problem?
Very, very puzzled. Would gratefully appreciate any help.
