Jim:
Remember that SAS-L is (more-or-less) mirrored as a USENET newsgroup:
comp.soft-sys.sas. Anyone can post to non-moderated newsgroups, and
enterprising spammers can sneak stuff into the moderated ones as well,
alas.
I read the newsgroup at home and get SAS-L at work. I like the double
structure, not least because explaining the concept of newsgroups to
newbies is not all that easy--whole nother technology, doncha know. But
it has its drawbacks, and double protection from spam, viruses, etc. is
part of the game, alas.

Do spammers subscribe for a short period of time, send their spam and then unsubscribe? Or is contributing messages to SAS-L not longer limited to subscribers?
