Sterling Blanchard and I birded Ivy Log Gap Road and environs this morning.

WILLOW FLYCATCHER
COMMON YELLOWTHROAT
Ivy Log Gap Road: (HEAVEN MUST BE SOMETHING LIKE THIS) 8am-12:30pm. Mostly
sunny, temp: 64F
PEOPLE - 0
CARS - 0
CHAIN SAWS - 0
LEAF BLOWERS - 0
BLACK BEAR MAMA WITH CUB - she tried to stare us down (and succeeded) until
the cub got off the road into the woods; she then followed.
WHITE-TAILED DEER - 1
WILD TURKEY - 1 hen
RUFFED GROUSE - 1
VIREOS: WHITE-EUED, RED-EYED, BLUE-HEADED, YELLOW THROATED
WARBLERS: N. PARULA, Y.B. CHAT, BLACK THROATED GREEN, CHESTNUT-SIDED, HOODED,
BLACK AND WHITE, AM. REDSTART (MALE BRINGING CATERPILLARS TO 3 YOUNG IN NEST
5 FEET AWAY AT EYE-LEVEL), BLACKBURNIAN (2 MALES HAVING A TERRITORIAL
DISPUTE), CERULEAN (1 HEARD), AND OVENBIRD (EVERYWHERE, CONSTANTLY SINGING).
SCARLET TANAGER
ROSE-BREASTED GROSBEAK
INDIGO BUNTING (EVERYWHERE)
YELLOW-BILLED CUCKOO - 2 IN EXPOSED BARE BRANCHES - A LIVING AUDUBON PRINT
WOOD THRUSH (very hard to drive or walk away)
EASTERN PHOEBE
ACADIAN FLYCATCHER
Blairsville Ranger Station: (Giff Beaton's Birding Georgia states
YELLOW-THROATED WARBLERS are always in the large pines. Bold, but accurate! They were
there, along with a singing first year ORCHARD ORIOLE, CEDAR WAXWINGS, EASTERN
KINGBIRD, GREAT-CRESTED FLYCATCHER and SCARLET TANAGER. Not a bad little stop
for 1:30 in the afternoon! A great day of birding!
