- Is v13 file compatible (interchangeable) with earlier versions? The new
long text feature implies a possible file format change. I would also be
concerned about any performance degradation with large quantitative data
sets.
- How thoroughly tested is v13? In the past it was sometimes best to wait
for the first round of fixes before installing the upgrade.
- How do customers with a license order their upgrade CD, or will these be
sent automatically?

Greetings SPSS users,
I'm pleased to announce that SPSS 13.0 is now available in North America.
For international customers, please check with you local SPSS office about
the availability of SPSS 13 in you country. We are very excited about the
release and have received lots of positive comments from our beta testers.
For example, here are just a few of the comments:
* "The new version of SPSS for Windows is a major upgrade. SPSS 13.0
includes an array of features that people will use often in their daily
work." Bob Muenchen,
Manager, Statistical Consulting Center, The University of Tennessee Office
of Information Technology
* "I think the new feature set is a major improvement in an already
outstanding product." James W. Golden, PhD, Associate Professor, Department
of Criminal Justice, University of Arkansas at Little Rock.
There are four main themes to the release:
* Enhanced reporting with new graph types, more charting
functionality, ability to export results to Microsoft PowerPoint, and new
features for the SPSS Tables add-on module;
* Better identification of groups with the new SPSS Classification
Trees add-on module and a new Multiple Correspondence Analysis procedure for
SPSS Categories;
* More powerful data management with features such as the ability to
include and retain very long text strings in datasets, a Date and Time
Wizard that enables customers to easily work with time/date data, and other
new features that provide more powerful data management;
* Predictive analytics for survey research with new algorithms to
predict and analyze numerical and categorical outcomes through the SPSS
Complex Samples add-on module.
