Subject: Look up function in SPSS
Content-Type: text/plain; charset="us-ascii"

Dear List,

I was wondering if SPSS has a lookup function that can be combined with a recode function. For example if VAR1 = equals any value of VAR2 then recode it as 'Exclude'. In this particular case VAR1 and VAR2 would both be string variables.

Could the same process be used if VAR2 was found in an unopened SPSS datafile?

Normally I would just use Recode, but in this case VAR2 will have thousands of values.
