Subject: Saving and synchronizing a copy of the opened program, realtime,
automatic, unattended, separate disk
Content-Type: text/plain; charset=ISO-8859-1
1) How to synchronize a file being edited in the v8.2 Enhanced Editor with
another opened text editor; unsupervised, automatic, real-time? I
currently use Ultra Edit’s feature: “Document has been updated. Do you
want to reload the file?” Reason: While editing I reference "remote"
portions of a program in a separate text editor instead of scrolling back
and forth. Might there be Enhanced Editor “split window” functionality on
the horizon? Because of all of the customized color coding, proc printo,
multiple test submissions, log feedback; I prefer to edit in the Enhanced
Editor.
>> Related questions: What is SAS’s “multi-process signon”? Is there a
functionality for the synchronization above using SAS’s Explorer “File
Shortcut”?
2) How could I go one step beyond the synchronization above and save a copy
of the opened Enhanced Editor file by using unattended real-time background
separate disk file copying? The closest I have come to this in Word is to
use a configured menu macro button to save a copy of the active document to
another disk. Word does not have a built-in facility for this. Ultra Edit
does provide a manual file copying menu button (as opposed to file
saving).
