I would like to add that blanks in file names always end up giving me grief,
so even when I get them from somewhere else, I change them to underscores.

In SPSS, to get a file, both forms require the quotes, so I'd say it doesn't
matter, ie,
get file = "file name 030205.sav"
get file = "file_name_030205.sav"
However, when using the command line, you may not need quotes for the second
option:
move "file name 030205.sav" temp
move file_name_030205.sav temp
so it may be easier to use the underscore.

Hello,
A bit off topic, but it might relate to databases, SPSS, and file linking,
etc.
In naming a file, does it make a difference if spaces are used, or is it
better
to use "_".
For example:
"file name 030205.sav"
versus
"file_name_030205.sav"
Thanks for your advice.
