I do so love these new functions (goodby "left(trim))", I will miss you).  Just a thought, would it be simpler to have just one "cat" function with a parameter indicating what flavor it is?  Something like

    cat('X',' ',var1,var2)

Same thing for "lag"

...or would this just complicate things?
