Presuming your data is sorted or indexed by NAME and you are using a DATA step with BY processing on NAME, then I would suspect you have overlooked the need to RETAIN GBs until output time which, by the way, should only be at LAST.NAME. So, you might want to research the RETAIN statement. Another interesting documentation read would be PROC SUMMARY.
