The species is Scaphander punctostriatus (Mighels & Adams, 1842). The type locality is Casco Bay, Maine. There is a long list of references (and synonyms) on the MALACOLOG data base maintained by the ANSP.

It is illustrated in Abbott's American Seashells, Emerson & Jacobson's Guide to Shells and elsewhere.
