Reading past posts I see the honorable David L. Cassell recommends PERL as is usual, and also that there's a cool free app out there called cURL that can be used with a filename pipe. Otherwise SAS filename URL doesn't handle cookies.

See http://groups.google.com/group/comp.soft-sys.sas/search?group=comp.soft-sys.sas&q=curl+pipe

Btw - if I reply to myself 3000 more times I'll have more posts than David and Toby combined!

Dear SAS-L Brain Trust -

I'd like to read a web page with Filename FTP but it requires browser cookies to view the pages I want.

The site is maintained by Westlaw and contains California's Code of Regulations.

For example:

234 FILENAME website URL 235 "%nrstr(http://weblinks.westlaw.com/Find/Default.wl?DB=CA%2DADC%2DTOC%3BADCCATOC&DocName=17 235! CAADCS59011&FindType=W&AP=&fn=_top&trailtype=26&vr=2.0&rs=WEBL6.01&spa=CCR-1000)" 236 ; 237 data _null_; 238 infile website lrecl=32767 pad ; 239 input; 240 file 'test.txt' mod lrecl=32767; 241 len=length(_infile_); 242 put _infile_ $varying32767. len; 243 run;

NOTE: The infile WEBSITE is:

Filename=http://weblinks.westlaw.com/Find/Default.wl?DB=CA%2DADC%2DTOC%3BADCCATOC&DocName= 17CAADCS59011&FindType=W&AP=&fn=_top&trailtype=26&vr=2.0&rs=WEBL6.01&spa=CCR-1000, Local Host Name=338306pchoate, Local Host IP addr=10.10.9.134, Service Hostname Name=weblinks.westlaw.com, Service IP addr=167.68.6.221, Service Name=httpd,Service Portno=80, Lrecl=32767,Recfm=Variable

NOTE: The file 'test.txt' is: File Name=C:\Documents and Settings\pchoate\Desktop\test.txt, RECFM=V,LRECL=32767

NOTE: 86 records were read from the infile WEBSITE. The minimum record length was 0. The maximum record length was 557. NOTE: 86 records were written to the file 'test.txt'. The minimum record length was 1. The maximum record length was 557. NOTE: DATA statement used (Total process time): real time 1.03 seconds cpu time 0.01 seconds

Rather than reading section 59011 as my browser correctly does with this URL, Filename URL returns a page stating "In order to access Westlaw WebLinks, Cookies are required. This browser appears to have Cookies disabled".

I see the cookie file in my Documents and Settings Cookies folder named "pchoate@weblinks.westlaw[2].txt".

Is there a possible work-around?

Thanks
