Warbling Vireo Raven Ruffed grouse

David Hedeen reports from Cedartown, Polk County on Wednesday, May 3. Two Warbling Vireos were feeding in willows at a small retention pond in the parking lot of an abandoned WalMart north of the heart of town on US 27. (On the opposite side of US 27 is a new WalMart SuperCenter.) [DeLorme p. 18 F-4] Hard to find species, rare migrant to Georgia seen a few days ago, but possibly still there

Other species observed at the pond that morning included two Orchard Orioles, two Yellow Warblers, a Common Yellowthroat, and a Sora silently standing in the open on the shore of the pond. Bobwhite (heard but not seen...but not a mimic, either), Solitary Sandpiper (which was seen later in the larger retention pond beside the SuperCenter parking lot), Yellow-breasted Chat, American Redstart, Yellow-rumped Warbler, Blue-Gray Gnatcatcher, Indigo Bunting, and Blue Grosbeak. http://www.listserv.uga.edu/cgi-bin/wa? 2=ind0605&L=gabo-l&P=R2004

Steve Barlow Fri. 5 May 2006 in Union and Lumpkin Co's: At Brasstown Bald: Common Raven best place in the state for that species Ruffed Grouse ( heard drumming) Canada Warbler (many singing) Chestnut-sided Warbler Black-throated Blue warbler Black-and-white Warbler Hooded warbler Ovenbird Winter wren Rose-breasted Grosbeak Scarlet Tanager
