Subject: Mountain Arrivals - 5/1/06
I spent about an hour this morning at the marsh on Fox Bridge Rd. in
Murray County. Not a whole lot going on there, but did get 43 species,
with three new arrivals for me in the region. Highlights:
Yellow-billed Cuckoo - FOTS
Acadian Flycatcher - FOTS
SEDGE WREN - FOTS
Northern Parula - 4
Prothonotary Warbler
Kentucky Warbler
Scarlet Tanager
Summer Tanager
I also made a stop at the Carters Reregulation Lake. By this time the wind
had increased, so there wasn't alot moving around. Highlights:
Red-breasted Merganser - hen
Bald Eagle - 3 - at least one nestling
Solitary Sandpiper
Ring-billed Gull - 2
Yellow Warbler - 3
Palm Warbler - 3
Orchard Oriole - 5
The GA ANNOTATED CHECKLIST has April 30 down as the extreme late date for
the RBME in this region. This is one day later. I was glad to see the Bald
Eagle nestling wobbling around on the nest. They usually lay two eggs,
sometimes one, rarely three. I couldn't make out any other young birds,
but the two parents were at the nest. Everything seems to be going great!

Murray County
