You're absolutely right. I didn't realize it at first because I was going to try to read the variable names in as well (just because this was the way it was done in similar programs we have here). But reading in the variable names is unnecessary as you can pick up the variable the amount corresponds to from the position... which takes you back to basically what I had at the start. So I think that it what we will probably stick with (and the proc transpose solution someone gave earlier will also be helpful in many situations as well). Many thanks!!!
