My wife and I saw a male Ring-necked Pheasant fly across Hwy 515 (about
1 mile east of Forge Mill Rd intersection)northeast of Blue Ridge, Ga
this afternoon. Apparently this species has been sighted in this county
before. The "Annotated Checklist of Georgia Birds" does not list this
species at all. This would indicate that the bird we saw is one
released for hunting or other escapee.
When I lived in North Carolina, there was at least one established and
recognized population on the outer banks.
I would be interested in any information anyone has on other sightings
in the area, any information on introductions or releases either in the
mountains or else where in Georgia. Please respond to me rather than
starting another stray thread on GABO.
Thanks, Bill
