I can't believe I'm going to disagree with you here (well it's a small disagreement :-). The installation of R on a Win32 platform is about as easy as any program I have ever installed. Just download the Windows installer for the Windows binary from CRAN, double-click the installer, accept the defaults, and presto-change-o the program is installed. To improve performance you can download a tuned BLAS dll (also from CRAN), copy it to the R\bin directory, and you are ready to go.

I was about to respond similarly.

I had no trouble installing R (and I often do have trouble with such things). LEARNING r is another matter, but the matrix stuff is pretty straightforward, AFAIK..
