This has already been discussed on the list (see, e.g.:

but, as some (like me) may have missed it, can't hurt to repeat.
The DOWNAMEx. format translates dates to the correct name of the day of
the week a date falls on (except for some pre 1800 dates), but will be one
day off if applied to the results of a weekday function.
