My wife and I have observed a Brown Pelican on Long Pond, near Lake
Park south of Valdosta (Delorme 67 9:D) three times in the past week:
02/24, 02/27, and then this morning 03/03. It's usually in the
company of Double-crested Cormorants (100+ at times) and Ring-billed
Gulls, although this morning it is alone. Alas, there's no public
access to Long Pond, so I can't give directions to any good public
boat landing or other vantage point. When I first spotted it last
week I thought it was a storm straggler, and given Thursday night's
storm it might still be. I haven't seen it feeding yet, but it
obviously is finding enough fish in the many ponds in this area since
it's been here for a full week.
