Subject: Rose-breasted grosbeak on Jekyll Island & blue-gray gnaycatchers
I had the pleasure of a brief birding outing on Jekyll yesterday (May 16)
and thus was interested to see Marjorie Clark's post this morning about
the grosbeak. I viewed either a female or immature male rose-breasted
grosbeak at the feeders at the Tidal Creek Nature Center off Riverview
Road, and I also was surprised they were present so late in May, having
departed my home further north in Burke County already. Also at these
feeders was a pair of painted buntings. At a nearby boating ramp we saw a
couple of blue-gray gnatcatchers - a first for me, so that was a treat.
The inhabited osprey nest along the macadam road near the tollbooth was a
lovely sight as well.
