Subject: banding at Joe Kurz WMA

Hi folks,
Today we banded the following birds at Joe Kurz Wildlife Management
Area in Meriwether County:
Indigo Bunting: 4, plus 2 recaptures
Prairie Warbler: 2 (this brings to seven the total caught in 6 days)
White-eyed Vireo 2
Yellow-breasted Chat: 2
Eastern Towhee: 1
Ruby-throated hummingbird: 1 unbanded
So far, we have caught hatch year birds of all the common species
except Prairie Warbler. I would expect a bird of this size, which
arrives earlier than some migrants, would be off the next by now.
The paranoid side of me thinks of the thread regarding this species
last year, and wonders if there is a modern-day DDT? But it is far
too early to cry wolf... yet.
Totals for the year (after 6 days banding)
As of June 30:
Indigo Bunting: 16 + 9 recaptured
Yellow-breasted Chat: 14 + 2 recaptured
Northern Cardinal: 12
Prairie Warbler: 7
Carolina Wren: 5
Field Sparrow: 5
White-eyed Vireo: 3 + 1 recaptured
Pine Warbler: 3
Blue Grosbeak: 1 + 2 recaptured
Yellow-throated Vireo: 2
Eastern Towhee: 2
Louisiana Waterthrush: 1
Summer Tanager: 1
Red-bellied Woodpecker: 1
Blue Jay: 1
Gray Catbird: 1
Ruby-throated Hummingbird: 2 (unbanded)
