Subject: Re: BAIRD'S SANDPIPER - Carters Lake
I talked to Max Medley earlier and he gave another nice report from the
Carters Lake Rereg. The following were found on the mudbar at the Hwy 136
bridge:
Killdeer - 17
Semipalmated Plover - 3
Spotted Sandpiper - 2
Least Sandpiper - 27
Semipalmated Sandpiper - 3
Western Snadpiper - 3
BAIRD'S SANDPIPER - 2
SANDERLING - 3
The lake is usually at it's lowest on Mondays. When the water rises it
pushes the shorebirds onto the mudbar. The best days to go are Tuesday,
Wednesday, and maybe Thursday.By Friday the mudbar is under water. Though
this is the typical practise, it isn't an absolute. Water levels are
managed at resevoirs and only they know why and when.
