Subject: Henderson Park Screech Owls - 10/7
For those birders who've been missing the Screech Owls at Henderson Park, I
saw one this evening on the west side of the lake about 30 minutes before
dark. Red Morph. I think there were two but one flew by quickly and didn't
stick around. I got to watch this one from about 10 feet away, almost at
eye level - and face to face. He was not concerned with my presence. Also
have been hearing Barred Owls there too.
I birded Henderson twice today - morning and late afternoon. Lots of
birders around today. Both times were productive - with many of the same
previously identified warblers (including two separate sightings of
Hooded's but not the Wilson's and a great look at a male Black-throated
Green in the mimosas leading to the tennis courts). To top the day off, we
got a nice treat of watching 5 Nighthawks fly overhead. Overall a lovely
day for birding.
